The 28th February and 1st of March this year will see Glasgow University Union host its annual Ancients Debating Competition, followed on Sunday the 2nd by Scotland’s first female debating competition.
Obviously missing this splendid weekend of debating would be absolutely heartrending, so make sure you reg here for Ancients and here for Glasgow Women’s open.
Ancients is an open 2 day competition with 5 rounds of 7 minute speeches with a break to semifinals; the final will of course be hosted in the aesthetically and acoustically pleasing GUU debates chamber.
In addition to providing a black tie dinner and ceilidh, institutions who send to Ancients will be eligible for FREE teams at the Women’s Competition the next day. Registration for the Women’s Competition alone will be £10 in advance, and £15 on the day.
The reg fees for Ancients are £50 in advance for UK teams (£60 on the day) and £40 for non-UK teams.
Before the final there will be a black-tie dinner with table service, wherein you can schmooze with the brightest and best of the debating circuit (IoNA and beyond!) After the final, you can reel the night away at an absolutely thrilling traditional Scottish Ceilidh (complete with band, not just some bloke with a boombox). There will of course be bins upon bins of Yakka. Never say we aren’t good to you.
